明治政府軍は箱館政権（旧幕府派）打倒のため、乙部に上陸し、江差、松前、木古内と要衝を制圧します。
これに対し、箱館政権軍の土方歳三（徳川幕府の京都を守っていた新選組のNo.2でした）は、箱館への最短ルートにある二股口で明治政府軍を待ち伏せ、二週間余りにわたって善戦し、勝利しました。
しかし明治政府軍は戦力の大半を集中し、矢不来を突破したため、箱館政権軍は箱館籠城を余儀なくされます。
命を捨てた忠義と可能な限りの策によって明治政府軍を撃退した土方歳三は、この後五稜郭で最後の活躍を見せます。
Meiji Government Army landed to Otobe for destruct Hakodate Administration (Former Shogunate Group), & captrued Keypoints like Esashi, Matsumae, Kikonai.
On the other hand, Toshizo Hijikata of Hakodate Administration Army (No.2 of Shinsengumi that protected Kyoto of Tokugawa Shogunate) waited Meiji Government Army in Futamataguchi in Shortest Route to Hakodate, & fought well for 2 weeks & more, & acquired Victory.
However Meiji Governmemt Army gathered most of their troops & broken through Yafurai, so Hakodate Administration Army were forced to shut themselves in Goryokaku.
Toshizo Hijikata who repel Meiji Government Army by Royalty by surrender his life & Ploy as possible show his final active in Goryokaku on later.
