明治維新で活躍した地域の一つ・薩摩（鹿児島）の士族（旧武士）たちが、日本（明治）政府の士族（旧武士）切り捨てに反発し、士族（旧武士）含む国民の尊厳確保を目指して起こした反乱で、日本市場最後の内戦です。
これを率いた西郷隆盛さんは、何度か聖書に触れたことがあり、敬天愛人（神を敬い人を愛する）をモットーとしていました。
そのため、彼と薩摩軍はその命の最後まで信念を貫きました。
その後、日本は自由民権運動（活動家の何人かは西南戦争などに参加）によって、尊厳確保社会への動きが以前より大きく進みました。
自分の場合、西郷隆盛さんは、幕末～明治（1850～1890）の人物の中では一番好きです。
モットーが公平精神の土台で、同時に彼が身分と精神共に最後の侍だからです。
It was Rebellion that be occurred by Shizoku (Former Samurai) of Satsuma (Kagoshima) one of Region that so contributed to Meiji Revolution, & the purpose of Rebels is opposed Policy of Japanese (Meiji) Government & aimed to keep Dignity of People including Shizoku (Former Samurai), & it is Last Civil War in Japan.
Mr Takamori Saigo who lead it listened about the Bible on several times, so his Motto is "Honor God & Love People".
So he & Satsuma Army stocked their beliefs.
After that, Movement for Dignity Keeping Society in Japan was moved so largely than before, by Liberty Rights Movements (Some of Its Activists were joined in Seinan War).
Mr Takamori is my Favorite Person in People of Bakumatsu-Meiji (1850-1890).
His Motto is Base of Fair Mind, & at the same time, he is Last Real Samurai in both of his status & his mind.
